Becoming Miss Independent – Part 2

Hey girl,

So remember how I told you in my last story Becoming Miss Independent – Part 1 starts with believing in yourself? If you haven’t read it yet, scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on it in the “You Might Like” section.

Anyways it really is true that believing in yourself is key. Ever since I started thinking more positively, good things have been happening to me.

Like the cool business idea I got last month. My grandma and I always loved baking together and whenever people would visit they would always ask about our cakes. So I thought why don’t we start selling cakes for the whole neighbourhood to buy.

It sounded like an easy idea in the beginning, but starting your own business is not easy at all. There’s so many things to consider and so many things can go wrong. But I remembered don’t focus on the bad things. To be independent you’ve got to believe that no matter what happens to you in life you are stronger than it and can bounce back at anytime.

I wanted to start off selling cakes at a local market before I got my own stall to test recipes. So I went to the local bread seller and asked if I could sell our cakes at her stall. She said yes and gave me money to buy my first batch of ingredients. I was so excited. I was getting one step closer to independence.

As I was on the way home to go back and start baking, the motorbike I was on stopped suddenly. I lost balance and all my ingredients fell on the floor. I was devastated! I had promised the baker I would bring her cakes by the next day but now I had no ingredients and no money to buy any more. I didn’t know what to do. I just wanted to give up. Why did life have to be so hard?

As I was standing there looking at my dreams of independence scattered on the floor I heard my grandmas voice in my head. “A negative mind won’t give you a positive life.” So I shook off the negativity and starting telling myself everything will workout OK. In that moment I chose to not give up and be resilient.

All of this taught me that the journey to independence isn’t a straight road. There will be ups and downs but the important thing is to keep moving forward.
